Eight months after the leak of the Dobbs decision, protesters are still showing up at the homes of antiabortion/Christian nationalist Supreme Court “Justices.” One of these protests took place on Jan 29, 2023. In addition to abortion rights chants, protesters also invoked the name of Tyre Nichols, beaten and tortured to death by murderous Memphis cops.
Right-wing groups are still screaming about the protests, and protesters keep coming back. Christian Nationalism, misogyny, homophobia, and transphobia on the Supreme Court are simply NOT acceptable.
On the 29th of January, the Party for Socialism and Liberation held a march in St Petersburg, FL from City Hall to the nearest police station. The march demanded that killer cops be sent to prison, and that all other cops resign. This event was held in memory of Tyre Nichols and in solidarity with activists in Memphis.
Cops hurredly barricaded the station as marchers approached, apparently the destination of the march caught them by surprise
On 1/20/23, anarchists in Portland, Oregon went after the UPS shipping center in Portland in retaliation after a comrade was recently murdered by the Atlanta Police.Anarchists broke somewhere between 10-15 large windows and started multiple small fires within the building. UPS is one of the biggest companies currently donating to the Cop City Project in Atlanta. On 1/18/23, Atlanta police attempted a raid in the forest that was being protected by forest defenders and once they showed up, they opened fire and killed a forest defender.
We want to express our love toward Tortuguita, who waalso known as Cami, as well as to all their comrades and loved ones.Atlanta police stole a comrade and friend to many people from us on 1/18/23. A few broken windows will never undo what the Atlanta police did, but hopefully continued actions can bring the change that Cami wished for and hoped to see one day.We call for more actions directly toward the companies that are donating to and funding the Cop City project in Atlanta. Forest defenders have a right to stay in the forest, and groups will continue to retaliate until the Cop City Project is cancelled.Love from PDX to ATL
On Jan 28, an Atlanta Forest Defense solidarity march assembled in Logan Circle and took to the streets in DC. As bike cops swarmed around the march, marchers chanted “Every City is Cop City! Stop Cop City!” The bike cops were dressed in black and yellow above all else, same colors as the Proud Boys. This chant may soon be heard nationwide, let’s all thank Chuck Modi for getting this committed to video in an intense and dangerous situation! The bike cops and car cops behind were essentially surrounding the march in a “rolling kettle” formation which could be stopped at any time on orders from headquarters.Same video originally posted to Twitter at twitter.com/chuckmodi1/status/1619487245903474689
The Critical Mass in Orlando rode while the Memphis video was being released. This stayed calm, but I had the sense it might be the last peacetime ride in a while. We only saw one “Karen” who trash talked up, cops didn’t harass us at all.
On the 18th of January, police assaulting the Atlanta Forest Defense/Stop Cop City treesits shot and killed forest defender “Tortuguita” or “Tort.” He was murdered after a cop was shot by another cop in a blue-on-blue “friendly fire” incident. Since then vigils have been held across Turtle Island. One of them drew an estimated 50-75 people to Malcolm X Park here in DC on Jan 24.
At least 15 cops stood around watching Malcolm X Park as the vigil got underway.
In spite of an incredible amount of police repression including one person murdered by police, four held without bond after the Sat night march in Atlanta, and two more held on $335K bonds, people all over Turtle Island are still hammering Cop City contractors and investors with everything they’ve got:
In New York City, Atlas Engineering (a Cop City contractor) had their windows smashed up and had to close for the weekend:
Note that the authors of this post appear to not have known that the wounded cop was hit by friendly fire(blue on blue).
That information was and is being systematically covered up by the corporate press, which has consistantly repeated lying police claims that Tort (a pacifist) somehow fired on them first. The gun they planted on the scene is the exact same make and model the cops there use: a Smith and Wesson M&P 9mm. This is not exactly a Glock in terms of the odds a random person would have one
A militant march took to the streets in Oakland, CA. This was a GO bloc, not a show bloc it seems. Bank of America got clobbered
“…Bank of America is an enemy of the people and life itself. They currently fund the construction of cop city in Atlanta, the same project that threatens the forest that Tortuguita died defending. They deserve no place in our landscape. We destroyed quickly but tirelessly…”
On the 22nd of January, the Women’s March took to the streets in DC and many other cities for abortion rights. In DC, swarms of Christian nationalists and other forced-birth advocates counterprotested at the Supreme Court, leading to some tense confrontations. Women are NOT going to back down on abortion rights, no matter what the church demands!
Hours after the Women’s march ended, protesters showed up at the Chevy Chase home of Supreme Court “Justice” Brett Kavanaugh. He is back in the news as new testimony and evidence of his brutal conduct towards Christine Blasey Ford and others emerges.
On the 22nd of January, a vigil was held in Orlando for Tort, the protester shot and killed by police at the Atlanta Forest Defense site on Jan 18. This was one of a great many such vigils held all over the so-called “United States” over the weekend
Protest and direct action against capitalism, imperialism, and fascism
